On Monday, 17th
August, 31 intrepid members arrived in the main car park in Saffron Walden where
they were handed maps and lists of questions about the town. They set off in
pairs, pens at the ready , to find the answers to questions set by Maureen
Laming and Pam Bangert, such as "Where can a one-legged man find another leg?"
and "Where is the boy too shy to face the girl?" Intrigued locals sometimes gave
a helping hand and, horror of horrors, some members actually went into the
Tourist Information Office to seek help. they said it was using their
initiative! Having put their eyes and brains under some considerable strain for
about two hours, they all met up at The Temeraire pub for lunch (thankfully they
were not fighting!). The answers were given and the jubilant winners were named:
in first place Kae Freeman and Judith Finn with help from Judith's
sister-in-law; runners up
were Mary Roder and Monica
Donegan.
The weather was
exceptionally kind and a good time was had by all. (Report and pictures:
Maureen Laming and Pam Bangert)
