SEPTEMBER - On a dreary morning several volunteers (below left), helped to erect the newly-acquired gazebo/marquee in the garden of Bob and Annette Dwyer-Joyce in preparation for a Hog Roast that Annette had arranged for around 55 members later in the afternoon. Preparing the feast was Lesley Jeans (a former home economics pupil of Annette's) and her husband Mark, who have created a catering business that provides for a variety of functions. Accompanying the roast was stuffing, mixed salad, cuscous, potato salad and of course crackling. This was followed by a choice of deserts: roulade, lemon tart or a chocolate creation topped with strawberries. Though the weather remained dull, inside the gazebo the atmosphere was quite comfortable. All agreed that the event was a complete success. (Report: Brian Leith, photos: Rosemary Morris)
