JULY - The
Theatre Group once again undertook its annual outing to the Southwold Theatre in
Suffolk. On a fine sunny morning 50 members boarded the coach to make
their way to The Froize, a picturesque pub in Chillesford. Here an
excellent buffet lunch was served in the pub's restaurant where all the
food is freshly prepared, cooked and served by the chef/owner, David.
After lunch the group re-boarded the coach for the final leg of the
journey, arriving in Southwold with time to spare for a stroll along the
pier and around the charming seaside resort followed by afternoon tea
before the early evening performance. The summer season of plays put on by
Jill Freud (wife of Clement), attracts visitors from far and wide and the
group enjoyed a sparkling performance of "The Boyfriend". Returning home
after the show, members were treated to filled rolls, cookies and a fruit
drink prepared the day before by Annette Dwyer-Joyce the Social Secretary
and assisted by her husband, Bob, the Brentwood U3A's chairman. There was
a sense of de ja vu on the return journey, as members watched dark
threatening clouds and a vivid rainbow. The previous year members
returning from Southwold looked with some concern as storm clouds gathered
and lightning lit the darkening skies. Most got home on both occasions
without getting too wet. (Report and photos: Brian Leith)
