JULY - Following a wonderful lunch at The Froize,
Chillesford, members arrived at Southwold on the annual outing to the Summer
Theatre. Once again Annette Dwyer-Joyce, Social Secretary, had planned a great
day out and from the start to the finish everything went as meticulously
planned. Although she had no control over the weather this, too, was perfect
with clear blue skies and a welcome cooling breeze (it seems there is always a
"cooling breeze" at Southwold, especially on the pier!). Bracing was a
term that was used by those who took a turn on the short but interesting pier.
Later, after a stroll around the town and for some an afternoon cuppa, members
were treated to the farcical play: "Charlie's Aunt", written by
Brandon Thomas in 1892, and professionally executed by regular players in Jill
Freud's summer season of plays at Southwold. Homeward bound, and members were
treated to a snack supplied by Annette, with delicious cake cooked by Barbara
Dennehy, to round off what can easily be described as "perfect" in
every way. (Report: Brian Leith)

There was a feel, as there always is, that
time had slowed down at Southwold and that visitors may be forgiven for thinking
that they have travelled back in time ~ around five decades to the 'fifties. (Photo: Brian Leith) |
