MAY - Members enjoyed a coach outing to two places of interest. The first was Spencer House where the group was split into two parties who were conducted round the beautiful state rooms by Blue Badge Guides. The house which was built for the first Earl Spencer is situated overlooking Green Park in London's West End. From there the group was taken to Eltham Palace which was the home of Stephen and Virginia Courtauld. Its art-deco style is reminiscent of the days of ocean liner travel in the 1930s and is perfectly preserved in the original style. A warm and sunny day contributed to the enjoyment of all who attended these two extraordinary, yet totally different, great houses. (Report and photo: Brian Leith) |
